Irradiance by Distance Chart
This chart plots the irradiance AWA publishes for the FX300 and FX500 panels at stated distances. Irradiance is the power arriving on each square centimeter, in mW/cm². It falls as you move away from the panel, and each panel has its own curve.

How to read the chart
- Always read a number together with its distance. 220 mW/cm² is a figure at a short distance, not a general rating.
- The two panels have different curves. At 6 inches the published figures are 83.5 for the FX300 and 94 for the FX500. At 12 inches they are 43.3 and 73.8.
- Do not compare one brand's figure at 2 inches with another brand's figure at 12 inches.
- Published figures are stated at specific points. Readings at the edge of a panel can differ, and so can readings from your own meter.
- Use the distance in your device manual. A table or chart is not a session recommendation.
Turn irradiance into energy
Energy in J/cm² equals irradiance in mW/cm² times seconds, divided by 1000. Try it with the red light dose calculator, or see the grid of example numbers in the session time table.

How we create this guide
AWA sells red light therapy devices. We build these tools and guides to explain how devices work and how to choose and use one. The numbers come from AWA product pages and our published irradiance specs. This is general information, not medical advice. Read each product page and label. See our editorial standards.
